Members are Central to League Success
"I define connection as the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued; when they can give and receive without judgment; and when they derive sustenance and strength from the relationship." - Brene Brown, Daring Greatly This year, the goal of the Junior League of Ogden (JLO) is for our members to make a positive impact on their community, their family, their careers and more importantly, themselves. It's not about the League as a whole, it's not even really about the many important projects that we have started or continue to support throughout the Ogden community. The work we do through JLO is about our members, and developing them into community leaders, developing their skill-sets and confidence to improve their professional and personal lives and unlocking their full potential. Only then can we make lasting change in the community.
President-Elect Kim Bowsher and I had a chance to travel to the Association of Junior Leagues International Fall Leadership Training last week and walked away profoundly impacted by the presentations and ideas shared. The overall theme of the training was to focus on the benefits we are giving our members and how we are helping them grow and succeed. In the coming days, weeks and months, we will be asking each member to think about how she has grown, what she has learned, and what else she is looking for in her League experience. The Board and the League will work hard to meet those demands. Our member's experience in JLO is important to not only the League, but to our entire community...because each of our members is already a community leader and eager to making lasting change in Ogden. It is my job as President of JLO and our job as a League to make sure each member knows their potential, has the opportunities to lead and are able to go out in the community and use those skills to make our world a better place.
I challenge each member to continue to Dare Greatly and remember that without our members (provisional, active and sustainer), there is no Junior League of Ogden. Thank you for believing in the potential of the League and the power of our members.
