Message From The President

To our Members and the Community - The idea behind this year's theme of "#LobsterUp" is to remind ourselves that we should not be afraid of being uncomfortable. That we should look at it as an opportunity for growth and to break out of our proverbial shells. That often, the things that are hardest for us to do, are the things that we MUST do in order to grow and learn and make the world a better place.

The last 48 hours have been tough on a lot of people within the Junior League of Ogden (JLO), our community and our nation. This election season has left me, personally, uncomfortable in ways that I never would have imagined. It has left a lot of our friends, family and community members in distress. And, no matter who you supported in the election, it has left us with more questions than answers. JLO remains committed to advocating for and leading the difficult conversations. We stand up for our values and do so in an inclusive and thoughtful way. We stand with you no matter your political affiliation, your religion, your race, your gender identity, your sexual orientation, your status as an American citizen or your view on the outcome of this election. We stand with you.

Since being founded in 1901, the Junior League mandate has been to develop exceptionally qualified civic leaders, seek collaboration with community partners to identify its most urgent needs and address them with meaningful and relevant programs and initiatives that not only improve lives, but also change the way people think.

Now is the time to #LobsterUp. To reach out, instead of retreating in. I encourage you to talk with each other. Not just with those who think like you, but those who don't. Let us make it a goal to have thoughtful conversations and find commonalities with each other. To think about ways to help bridge the incredible gaps that have been exposed, and work with each other to come together. It won't be easy. Things that are worth our tears rarely are. But I believe in the power of this organization. I believe in the women of our League and this community. I believe that we are more than our differences. And above all, I believe in the power of women coming together.

To quote Susan Danish, Executive Director of the Association of Junior Leagues International: "I am more committed than ever to our organization and its work to help build communities where every citizen can reach his or her full potential and thrive. That is not political. That is The Junior League."
